It occurs to me that the persistence of creationism in the US is not an accident. A nation whose myth is based upon a divine instigation on principles unblemished by time’s moment; whose most prominent arbiters of law dismiss such notions as a living constitution, that reflects the circumstances of the day; whose attitude to the rest of the world, currently considered, is simply an expansion of its delusionary Eden: such a nation’s sclerotic heartland could have no truck with the notion of fluxion and mutation and adaptation, with the desparate necessity of evolution.
