You pack for one future in private; you unpack for another in public. But to unpack in public is also to pack in private, because only you know what remains to be packed.

Lessening is hard, but lessening eventually asserts itself and makes necessary what is necessary. It defines what can and should be packed. It defines what is an inevitable weight, what is surplus, what is steerage, what is ballast, what fits a defined space, what can be converted into the intangible and carried without loss.
